3 Killer Steps To Create A Striking Blog Title In 10 Minutes

by Franklin Bishop on September 10, 2008

Being able to generate a good blog title is becoming increasingly important now. Especially when there are opportunities that you can grab a hold of with just running a blog.

Here’s a little bit of a golden advice before we get moving. Ensure that you develop a mind that is free to express itself whenever you feel like it. Use these killer steps to do good!

Step 1: Sniff Out Popular News That People Want To Read

Firstly, you will need to know the main core of your content. Writing is the easy part, right? If the headline or the title of your blog is the only thing that bothers you, this is it.

Go to your favorite discussion boards or newspapers or even watch the news on the television to get some ‘core ideas’. See, people like to be ‘in the heat of the topic’. Catching a good point to talk about is key to the start of your title creation.

Step 2: Hypnotic Writing Plays A Part

What really is ‘hypnotic writing’. If you haven’t read this, it would be good for you to grab a book written by Joe Vitale. He will teach you how to create a good blog title which practically grabs your reader by their eyeballs!

All by using the power of playing with words. A little bit of skillful word usage will help you write magnificent titles in the long run. People are waiting to be attracted and distracted from whatever they are doing.

Step 3: Plant Your Blog Post In Various Places

Often times you can see that most online discussion forums or just blog communities are really hot onto a certain topic. In step 1, if you have already found out a hot topic then go to where the crowd is hanging out.

Post a small 1 sentence advice or tip and tell them a little about how you wrote something related to what they are talking about. You will surely be able to attract a fair amount of quality readers to your blog.

Ignore The Mass Advice

What I mean by this is not to literally delete everything you hear about teaching you how to create a good blog title from your mind. Just learn to filter and learn from the advice coming from bloggers.

Step 1 is good for search engine. So that when people search for it, they would see your blog and visitit.

Step 3 is what I just used when google brought Chrome. It brought me about 1000 digg hit.

Good insight man! I’ve been thinking about using political titles. It seems like with the current state of politics, you can get some good traffic by capitalizing on this. Does this sound like a strong idea?

Blog titles are like headlines on a sales page. Doesn’t matter how great your content is…no one will read it if your title doesn’t draw them in. And I just finished reading Hypnotic Writing…definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to make their writing more compelling.

The title is so important, especially if you submit your posts (or hope that others submit them) to social news sharing sites like Reddit and Digg. These people will only initially see your title among a list of at least a couple dozen. It has to stand out. Using a question might be effective. Or maybe calling the reader to action (”You must learn about X Y Z!”). Or making a promise (”How You Can Create a Killer Blog Title NOW”).

I know. People seem to digg articles just because of their titles. Most the time they don’t even go read the article itself.

That’s a good point about Digg. I think mostly people are like that…they just scroll through and digg the titles that catch their attention.

Really top quality post. You really do need to have a good title to catch people’s attention. Like how a newspaper focuses a lot on titles so do we as blog owners. This is a really good point that you make and something we all need to take into account

Catching people’s attention is really important when writing a blog title. No one will really care to even read your blog post in the article has a bad title. I know the first thing I do when I come to a new blog is read a blog post title and I never click on it unless it is an interesting one.
