One of the most important things as a blogger is to show that you’re an expert. Most people do not like to take advice from people that do not know what they’re talking about. That’s why I and many others that have dealt with blogs for many years say choose a topic you know a lot about. There are simple ways you can show that you are blogging as an expert of your topic.
If you can show that you are an expert of the topic you are writing about then you have a better chance of getting visitors to subscribe to your blog. Here are the three simple ways of showing that you are an expert. Use your about page to prove that you know what you are talking about. Also you can show on your blog’s front page that you are an expert on the topic just like your about page. Right content that shows readers that you are an expert. And most of all relate to experiences you’ve had in your posts.
Blog as an Expert
1. Your about page is one of the ways that you can prove that you know what you are talking about. Your about page will likely be one of the most visited areas on your blog. You do want to talk about yourself. That is why it’s called the about page. However, try to make sure to cover why people should listen to you in your first paragraph.
Here’s an example, if your blog is about dogs then explain to them why you have started this blog about dogs. You should be able to talk about having your own dog and you’re different experiences. This will show that you do know what you are talking about and people will be more likely to want to read your content. Remember: the term expert is thrown around loosely so it doesn’t mean you know “everything”.
2. Another way of showing that you an expert is by talking about yourself on the front page of your blog. I have done this on the sidebar of my blog. All you need to do is write a quick one or two sentences about yourself. Make sure these sentences explain why people should listen to you. It would not make sense to write something like, “I love dogs and I hope to own one myself someday.” It might work if other people hope to own a dog someday also. However, it is not likely that people will read blogs about dogs they do not own one themselves. I’m just using this example because I actually came across a blog like this.
3. Of course the best way you can prove to people that they should believe you is by writing great content. If you write great content and readers can benefit from your information, then you’ll have no problem getting people to subscribe to your blog. Great content usually trumps any other way to show that you are an expert. Trust me, if you write a great about page and don’t back it up with great content, then people are still not going to subscribe to your blog.
4. Last but not least, use experiences you have had to relate to the content you are writing. Continue to show visitors and readers that you have experienced many things that are related to your topic. This will show that you are experienced and people can easily relate to you. You do not always have to write about positive experience as many people might get frustrated since they are having negative experiences. Show that you have had a negative experience but have fixed it by doing something they also could do.
Proving that you are an expert about the topic you are blogging about is important if you want to create a successful blog. Remember that the word expert is thrown around loosely so it doesn’t mean you have to know everything. Blogging about something you know a lot of information on will benefit you a great deal.

Hmmm… Looks like it’s time to get my “about” page done.
Yes, important part of your blog.
Giving good comments on other blogs and share what you know about that topic is a pretty effective way as well.
Good points Erwin.
Thanks for agreeing with me Frank! =)
Solid advice, can only hope I’m following it myself. I hate talking about myself, yet to do a good job you need to be able to. Good stuff Franklin!
Yup, it is difficult to know how much to talk about yourself.
Smart ideas, I will try to improve my about page.
