5 Reasons Why I Comment on 36 Different Blogs

by Franklin Bishop on August 11, 2008

Many of you may not know this, but every morning I get on my computer and comment on 36 different blogs. Then throughout the day I constantly check my Google Reader to see if there’s any new posts I can comment on.

Many people might think that this is a little crazy, but trust me when I say there are some people that post on way more than 36 different blogs a day. I know that a lot of you might say you do not have enough time to do this. However, it only takes me around a hour and a half to comment every day on 36 different blogs. It is easy to do.

Here’s the five reasons why I comment on 36 different blogs:

1. I Get Traffic Back to My Blog – Commenting on different blogs is still the number one way to get traffic back to your blog. I have got most of my traffic from commenting on other blogs. I tend to use the name of my blog instead of my real name so that people already know what my blog is about.
2. I Get to Build My Brand – You can build your brand by commenting on blogs. Trust me, there are many people that just go through and read the different comments just like people do on You Tube. What you write is what a lot of people will remember you by just like the blog posts on your blog. So think before you comment.
3. Content Ideas – Usually you have to read the post before you can comment. Reading different posts on different blogs can give you a whole bunch of ideas for content. This has really helped me a lot so I have good ideas of things I can talk about to help bloggers. I know I can build a good blog since I have over 20,000 subscribers on two different blogs, but thinking of different things bloggers want help with is the hardest part.
4. More Subscribers – If your comments drive traffic to your blog then most likely the people have liked what you are saying and could potentially subscribe to your blog. I have got most of my subscribers coming from different blogs after looking at my statistics.
5. Becoming a Better Writer- Like I said above, you usually have to read the post before you can comment. Reading allows you to become a better writer if you think so or not. The more you read, the more ways you will begin to write articles.

Commenting on a whole bunch of blogs that are in your niche can do a lot of things for you. Try not to use the reason, “You do not have enough time.” There’s plenty of time in a day and you can easily comment on a boatload of blogs in an hour.

I understand why you comment on so many different blogs. I’m just wondering how many blogs are you up to? You have to probably be around 50 different blogs now. I think I could probably find a couple of hours to do this myself.

I am going to try this. I have been wanting to start using google reader instead of subscribing with opera. Opera is ok though, but google reader will allow me to access my feeds from anywhere.

I like this idea though. I will try it soon, I need all the traffic I can get.

Yeah visibility is one important benefit of frequent posting. It really helps give you a “face” in an otherwise “faceless” community. In fact, I’m doing it right now! Like I said in another blog on this site however, I think it’s important to keep your posts on topic and at least read through the post before commenting.

Of course with the impending results of the $200 contest coming up, I’ve had to cut down on my posting on other blogs for the time being! I can’t wait for the results, even if I don’t win. After that it’s back to my regular blogging activities!

I say find about twenty blogs you really like or love AND have a good readership and comment honestly.

Does it work? Well, I clicked a Franklin Bishop comment at ProBlogger and discovered this site.

This is a great site.

Yes I picked up on this site at problogger too and it had me completely drawn in. I spent so much time on looking for places to comment with the nofollow removed that I have lost sight of the bigger picture,, traffic. Thanks for this post…

Franklin, great post! I have to agree that I have gotten a great education by commenting. At first, I was merely trying to build traffic, but now I see it as a means of giving and also receiving education. Thanks for the great article!

First- Great post and great advice. You also have a nice little system, I am always tweaking my system for commenting as well as the blogs that I read/comment on regularly.

Second- 20,000 subscribers is a lot of freaking people sir lol. How many blogs are you running? I know you said that was from two…is that this blog and another one, or two other blogs?

Yeh, I agree… I get a fair amount of spinoff article ideas from reading and commenting on blogs. And even though I hate to admit it, my writing has improved. …Not the quality of my writing, but the technique of writing for the web.

Commenting Blogs is a good thing, and your idea is very well arrange one.
I started commenting a lot more on blogs to gain benefits to my own site, and to start building relationships with other Blog Owners. Such is also a good thing to do. I try to make my comments related to the topic as much as possible. I really hate spam and comments that comes from an auto comment submitter.

But I try to find blogs of related content so I can find myself on a familiar place of interest and knowledge.

Sometimes I look for a divert place to place comments or what I think about the subject or content. I really believe exposing yourself to other topics will also get you and your site recognize, favor and ranked.

Not to mention the possibilities of finding new clients for the affiliate products you promote on your site.

I like your blog and your blog content so I decided to subscribe on your Rss.

Just found your blog today. Really like it – keep up the good work.Domain info more important than you think :-) Domain information such as DNS, age of domain and even the expiration date are used to distinguish between illegitimate and legitimate domains. Why are google doing this? Simply to get all the factors they can to get an internal “trust score”.This “trust score” is used to eliminate “doorway” pages and spam in the search result.I’M not saying that it’s working perfectly – but they are doing a pretty good job.

You have way too much time in your day if you can comment on 36 blogs.

I only do 34.

All those reasons are perfectly valid – I know some people that would disagree with you about commenting being the number one way to get traffic back to your blog. I think it is though, but I had a question why is it that you choose your name as the title and url of your blog.

Frank just wanted to say thanks for sharing your tips. I’m also commenting on different blogs to build relationship with fellow bloggers and to join healthy discussions for a few weeks now. Your tips/article just confirmed I’m doing the right thing.

I found that commenting for traffic was a useful tool initially, but these days I comment more just for fun (and tbh I probably comment more now than I used to!)
