Many of you may not know this, but every morning I get on my computer and comment on 36 different blogs. Then throughout the day I constantly check my Google Reader to see if there’s any new posts I can comment on.
Many people might think that this is a little crazy, but trust me when I say there are some people that post on way more than 36 different blogs a day. I know that a lot of you might say you do not have enough time to do this. However, it only takes me around a hour and a half to comment every day on 36 different blogs. It is easy to do.
Here’s the five reasons why I comment on 36 different blogs:
1. I Get Traffic Back to My Blog – Commenting on different blogs is still the number one way to get traffic back to your blog. I have got most of my traffic from commenting on other blogs. I tend to use the name of my blog instead of my real name so that people already know what my blog is about.
2. I Get to Build My Brand – You can build your brand by commenting on blogs. Trust me, there are many people that just go through and read the different comments just like people do on You Tube. What you write is what a lot of people will remember you by just like the blog posts on your blog. So think before you comment.
3. Content Ideas – Usually you have to read the post before you can comment. Reading different posts on different blogs can give you a whole bunch of ideas for content. This has really helped me a lot so I have good ideas of things I can talk about to help bloggers. I know I can build a good blog since I have over 20,000 subscribers on two different blogs, but thinking of different things bloggers want help with is the hardest part.
4. More Subscribers – If your comments drive traffic to your blog then most likely the people have liked what you are saying and could potentially subscribe to your blog. I have got most of my subscribers coming from different blogs after looking at my statistics.
5. Becoming a Better Writer- Like I said above, you usually have to read the post before you can comment. Reading allows you to become a better writer if you think so or not. The more you read, the more ways you will begin to write articles.
Commenting on a whole bunch of blogs that are in your niche can do a lot of things for you. Try not to use the reason, “You do not have enough time.” There’s plenty of time in a day and you can easily comment on a boatload of blogs in an hour.

What a great post…I especially like your point around learning how to write better. I have found another benefit is expanding the network! I have had several opportunitites presented to me as a result of commenting on great blogs…I guess it is all about sharing the love! Nice stuf…
Commenting on different blogs has really furthered my blogging and my presence/brand in general. I especially like to interact on good blogs outside of my “niche” because they really spark new ideas for me.
Hi!
I would like to ask how many articles you write in a day and how often you reply to comments in your blog. How much is do you pay for your domain.
Thank you

I agree that you can get some pretty good traffic by posting comments. I think the goal should be to continually increase the amount of traffic from the search engines. You can get more search traffic if you phrase your blog as if you were searching for the content (yes, you can take this too far).
Another great benefit of commenting is the PageRank that you are able to build but that is a secondary benefit.
36 blogs a day is way more than what I comment on I suppose I should try to pick up the pace. Good post, thanks.
There are a lot of blogs out there. I semi-subscribe to about 2000. It definitely gives you options to comment at any time of the day on any subject. But I am not sure just how many I have commented on so far.
Good article. I am not up to 36 yet but I’m adding more. In fact I’ve found another to add to the list. Thank You!
It is always a smart move to comment on blogs in your industry because you will get branded and you will get traffic. The more you do it the better the result!
Thank you for putting this post together… I have shared it with my networks telling them that this is solid advice that any blogger should adhere to.

only 5 today so far but building as I go.
great article and well worth the time to read and take action.

Nice article! I’d also have to agree with the writer who suggested that the goal should still be focused on getting additional traffic from the search engines. Furthermore, I’d also suggest that the page rank and topic of the blogs that one comments on should have some value. For instance if you are commenting on a blog that sells dog food with a page rank of zip/nada/0 and you are selling cat toys, this can actually harm your search engine optimization efforts while generating artificial traffic from the blogs since both sites are somewhat related to pets, but may be manufacturing sites specific to their products and neither is a pet store

This is a great post. How can I NOT comment after reading it? Charles Heflin Twittered me on this, and I agree with his comment. We all need to take a few moments each day to read what is happening in our industry and connect with fellow bloggers – even if it has some internal drivers motivating us that are a bit self serving. *grin*
Technology Goddess- Great response everyone. We do need to all do this. Thanks for finding my blog.
Good commenting strategy you have it here. I could agree more with you that not only commenting drives traffic to my site, it gives me more ideas to write my next article.
BTW, 20,000 subscribers is certainly a good no. to capitalize on.

Commenting on others blogs is very good way to get good trafic, backlinks and become popular blogger, but your comment must be interesting for other commentator, if he liked your comment it is your one potential reader.
I think second work blogger must do after creation content is commenting on others blog and reply comments on his own blog.

Great Post and ideas! Not only did your article title draw me in, it completely sold me. Because you know what I probably clicked on three different peoples sites that I saw that comments just on this post alone. I was like I have not see this person or that person comment on this blog yet. HAHA!! So I guess you just showed me how it really works!

Do you comment on the same 36 blogs everyday? Or do you continuously look for new ones? Or a combination of both?

Those are some really good questions…Also, what do you see works the best. Do you try to answer questions others are asking through the comments? Or do you just make quality comments about the topic or the article? Lastly, have you ever try controversial commenting?

Well thanks. I know that it might seem to take a while to do so but it doesn’t take very long to comment on this many blogs. If you do start to comment make sure to write three or more sentences. No one really cares what you say if you write one line.
Thank you for this information. I really need this.

I can’t believe you are commenting on 36 different blogs. That is absolutely nuts. I do not think that I would have the patience to do this.
An hour and a half for 36 different blogs? That comes out to about 2 2/3 minutes per blog. If you think about it, for most blogs it should not take more than 2-3 min to read (or scan) through a post and type a few lines into the comment box. So, this sounds reasonable to me.

I’m in the process of building a list of Tech blog that interest me to comment on regularly. Do you think it’s better to comment on Huge blog with tons of commenters like a Tech Crunch, or smaller more personable blogs, that still have a good amount of traffic.

Commenting is such an important part of networking and branding that if you don’t comment, people just see you as the shy guy in the corner at school dances. No one comes to your website to socialize or find products, services, and information. Any information you do get is merely by chance. Half the fun of blogging is being social!

commenting is great to reach new people but the content must be good at the same time.
because good content will attract its own traffic and will add much more value to a site (if you go to sell it) than if the traffic comes from hours of the author commenting.
Are you commenting on the same 36 blogs every day? hmm…
How did you find/choose the blogs that you follow?

I totally agree. I comment on several blogs as often as time allows. i don;t really have much time in the course of a normal work day, but it really does not have to take a lot. And commenting on different blogs gives me ideas that I can use on my own blog!

I’ve always found that getting out into the blogosphere and commenting on blogs is a surefire way to bring in new traffic. You not only bring in readers from those blogs, but also the authors.
Also, by spreading yourself across your niche and becoming involved with blogs outside your own, it shows that you truly are engaged in your space, and not just focused on your own content.
Mike
Yup, the more people that see you around constantly the better too. People will come to your blog sooner or later.
