5 Wordpress Blog Security Plugins

by Franklin Bishop on January 3, 2009

Your Blog security is important on your Wordpress Blog. So you need to find the right Wordpress security plugins to secure your blog from hackers and spammers. There are many Wordpres plugins out there that can do this for you but here are a few that you might not know about. I tried to leave out the most popular ones but if you would like me to add them let me know.

If you have any other security Wordpres plugins that you use and is not that popular let me know about it in the comment form below so that I can add it. Make sure to include a link if you have one.

Wordpress Blog Security Plugins

WP-SpamFree – An extremely powerful anti-spam plugin for WordPress that virtually eliminates comment spam, including trackback and pingback spam. Finally, you can enjoy a spam-free WordPress blog! Includes spam-free contact form feature as well.

WP Security Scan – Scans your WordPress installation for security vulnerabilities and suggests corrective actions.

AskApache Password Protect – This plugin doesn’t control WordPress or mess with your database, instead it utilizes fast, tried-and-true built-in Security features to add multiple layers of security to your blog. This plugin is specifically designed and regularly updated specifically to stop automated and unskilled attackers attempts to exploit vulnerabilities on your blog resulting in a hacked site.

WP-Hashcash – WP Hashcash is an antispam plugin that eradicates comment spam on Wordpress blogs. It works because your visitors must use obfuscated javascript to submit a proof-of-work that indicates they opened your website in a web browser, not a robot. If the javascript check fails, WP Hashcash now gives you three options; it can either put the comment into moderation (default), put the comment in the akismet queue, or delete it.

Secure WordPress – Little help to secure your WordPress installation: Remove Error information on login page; adds index.html to plugin directory; removes the wp-version, except in admin area.

Those are a few Wordpress security plugins that you might not have known about. I had used all of them and they all seem to be working just fine. Keeping your Blog secure is important. Of course always remember to back up your Blog in case a hacker gets a hold of it. Hopefully these security plugins will help you out in some way.

Nice list. I haven’t heard of the ‘AskApache’ plugin. But ‘Secure Wordpress’ is a great plugin. I’d recommend it for everyone.

Having the right security plugins for your blog is critical due to the amount of spammers and hackers that exist on the internet. You want to protect your blog as much as you can by having these plugins installed on your site. If you fail to do this, you put your blog in jeopardy

I’m not so worried about the spam plugins as Akismet seems to be working just fine for that purpose. However I am really glad to hear about the security plugins. Interestingly I have not know of security plugins before this post. Thanks for letting us know about these. ;-)

I just installed WP Security Scan and it found something bad from my blog. But messing with database, I have no cuts to do it. I will break my database if I touch it :)
