In order to publisher a quality blog, you need to know the demographics of your blog. You need to know such things like: where your visitors are coming, who they are, what they are looking for, and why they are visiting your website. If you do not know these things about your readers, you are totally missing out on the information that you need to provide to your visitors.
Most bloggers that use tools to find this information usually struggle with information overload because they don’t know what they are looking for or what they need to know. In order for you to know these things, you need to sit down and create a list of the general things about your blog.
- What topic your blogging about?
- What niche you are in?
- Who is your competition within the niche and what are they doing differently?
- Are you answering the questions that you viewers are asking?
- The reason that you blog about this topic.
- Are you blogging for money or the passion for the topic of interest?
If you can’t answer all of these questions in one sitting, you really need to go back to the beginning until you have done all of these things. By having all of these things, you will separate yourself from 90% of the bloggers because they simply fail to know all of these things or are just too lazy to do them.
If you have a clear understanding of all of these things along with some general demographics of your blog, you will rocket yourself into the top stratosphere of the blogosphere.
Just reminder, if you due the research and due diligence before hand, you will automatically set yourself on the right path towards success. If you would like to see some of the blogs that are doing things right, you should check out the Ultimate blogging Resource Guide for 2008.

Good points Franklin. It’s necessary to do the right keyword research and if you already have a blog in place.. learn how to analyze your traffic statistics.
If you don’t know how to analyze your traffic then you are holding yourself back from being even more successful. I agree with you.
Nice post. Luckily i was able to answer all of them straight away.
That is definitely good.
Great questions. You’re right, if you can’t answer them fairly quickly, you might have a problem.
Franklin, you did it again! Thanks for the great post. These are great questions to reflect on and to continuing to reflect on with every single blog post I put out there. Thanks for the great education!
Yes, if you continue to just ask yourself these questions then you should always be on the right track.
Very important points. And I agree with Rowell, regularly analyzing your statistics and adapting your approach or material in response will improve the success of your blog.
I agree with you 100%. But it is definitely one of the hardest things to do.
I am in a very good niche, Stock Trading/Investing which is my full time job. I need to spend a bit more time on my blog though. I have learned a lot of blogging tips here. But I need to implement them. I wish I had 48 hours a day.
I know what you mean. There is never enough time in a day. Just do a little bit at a time and you will soon get there.
Great post and great list of guide questions!
Thanks a lot Bryan.
Great post indeed.
I started on my own blog, couple of years ago but I give it up. But now I see (even back than), that I was making mistakes, a lot of them..
Now I am reading all blogs with that content, to motivate myself just a little bit and restart bloging!
And this is one of few post out there, which truly motivates you..
Wish me luck..
If you look at your most popular posts, you will get a sense of who is reading your blog. SiteMeter and Google Analytics give you an accurate picture of what’s popular on your blog. Plus, they are both free.
BTW, I love the new design of Franklin’s blog. I haven’t visited in a while.
