You Can Comment Again – Lesson to Be Learned

by Franklin Bishop on July 30, 2008

I am still in disbelief when I lost about three months worth of posts. They kept my first post ever and it was dated three months later. There was a huge security breach in my WordPress and a hacker got the best of it. I have complete security protection of my WordPress now so this shouldn’t happen again. I did open comments again if you didn’t notice last week. I do notice that all of you are still visiting my posts, just not commenting so I thought I would tell you guys that comments are open.

There is a lesson to be learned here. Make sure you have total protection over whatever you are doing on the Internet. Of course I did not update my security plug-in for WordPress and that is why this has happened. If you are a user of WordPress then I would recommend checking your plug-ins to make sure they’re up to date. I have never had this problem with my two other blogs and they have over 20,000 subscribers each.

This is a good way to lose subscribers. I have lost over 700 subscribers over this fiasco but I hope to gain them back. I will sure not let this happen again as I’ll be checking for updates for my security plug-in daily. If you do not have a security plug-in for WordPress I would really recommend you getting one so that this does not happen to you. Losing 500 subscribers is like losing $500 on this blog every month.

Considering that I talk about blogging and making money online, it is good that I’ve learned this lesson myself and not you as beginners. I have the other two blogs to bring in the income that I need but if you only have one blog and you take all the time in the world to build up a fan base and then lose them because of something like this, then it sucks.

Thanks to the 3,000 some subscribers that stuck by me.

Cheers,

Franklin

That’s terrible! What version of WordPress are you using? I’ve been waiting to upgrade to 2.6, but 2.5 was supposed to be fairly safe.

Hi Franklin, I wanted you to know I just approved your entrecard ad for my blog. I am sorry if you had to wait, my laptop went on me. I have been waiting for my new one to come in and then I had the company put all my info. from old laptop to new one, so I am just getting around to approving Entrecards.
In regards to the Wordpress mishap… you mentioned the word “hack” did someone actually hack into Wordpress? I am ashame to admit I did not know we had to update our plug-ins. Also I would like to know where do you get this security plug-in to protect our work on Wordpress? If you would could you email me? Thanks so much for the info and I am sorry that this happened to you. I lost 3 of my post awhile back due to a propagation that had to be done with my host, and when I learned that I could never get back those 3 post it really makes you mad… but then there is nothing that can be done!

I’m still not really sure but I have been told that it might be that WordPress 2 .6 has security issues and that my WordPress security plug-in was not up to date. I guess they are trying to us to say that it didn’t work properly because it was outdated.

What security plugin did you use? I am really interested to find this out because I have heard of loads of other blogs that have been hacked into and exposed and I really don’t want this to happen to my blog. That sucks that you lost over 500 subscribers. But heck….having over 3,000 is amazing. How many do you have at the moment??

I continue to hear this word press hacking going around. Do you know of any other stories of hacking like yours? Also, just wondering how exactly do you know that all your word press plug ins are up to date. This would be a good lesson for me to learn!
