Implementing some form of viral marketing like doing a guest post can be very effective if put in your marketing plan. There are many forms of viral marketing and if you utilize it aptly you could have a huge quantity of visitors overnight. A good way is by doing a guest post. One company that used viral marketing successfully was Microsoft’s Hotmail.
Hotmail was faced with the issue of not getting enough traffic to its web page. The same thing many of you deal with also. How do you fix a problem where you do not have enough traffic? The answer is obvious, implement viral marketing into your plan. Hotmail was able to do so and received more visitors to their web site than they anticipated.
Although the technique Hotmail used is one that can’t always be duplicated, there are other ways to operate viral marketing. I have a tendency to be an online researcher when it comes to marketing, blogging, and other similar topics. I typically spend two hours a day researching while taking in as much information as I possibly can. One viral marketing technique I am seemingly seeing is the use of free content as a guest post.
Many people were surprised when the Zen Habits decided to freely allow other bloggers to post their content without permission or credit. The blog owner already knew that people were filching his content and posting it on their blog without permission or credit. You may think this is dim-witted and that he should not of done so, but he now gets people’s attention by putting an Uncopyright link on his blog.
People do not have to be concerned with getting caught using his content without permission or credit. He now says it would be nice to be acknowledged as the owner of the content, but if you choose not to do so it is all right with him. More than likely the people that will actually take advantage of this will give him credit, especially the ones that never used his content before because they knew they were not given permission to do so. Now we do not know he did this as a viral marketing technique or just chose to do it “just because”, but it would be nice to find out if there was more under the surface (than just deciding to allow people to post his content without permission or credit).
Tweaking Zen Habits’ technique to develop better results is one thing that many Internet users are beginning to do. Choosing to publish guest posts is a good way for bloggers to get free content, so why not offer your content free of use as long as credit is given with guest blogging integration. Guest blogging integration is where you give someone credit using a basic guest blog format.
For example: This article was written by Franklin Bishop on his blog FranklinBishop.net.
Many would think that this would harm your search engine rankings because of duplicate content (may be true, may not be. Ezine Articles and web sites parallel to it do not seem to think so). More than likely people are going to make use of your content because numerous bloggers cannot find the time to write everyday. How does this make it viral marketing? Your content begins to show up all over which will direct readers to your blog. A lot of times we are not made aware of a technique like this because individuals that have used it successfully sweep it under the rug and do not let the secret get out.

Creating something that goes “viral” isn’t easy. It is almost random – some things hit and many don’t. Need inspiration?

So Franklin, are you offering your articles for use?
Sean.
you’re right about that. Sometimes people just get lucky and create something viral and don’t even realize it.
I will be offering my articles free of use as long as people post it as a guest post.
I find viral marketing an interesting topic. A lot of other bloggers do not talk about this but I’m glad you brought it up because many bloggers need to be informed about it. I know if you hit on something just right you could bring thousands of visitors to your blog every day.
I guess it is possible to get thousands of visitors everyday but you better have a really good plan. However, a lot at times people just get lucky and don’t realize that they created their own viral marketing and that is why they are getting so many readers and subscribers.
I haven’t heard very much about viral marketing either. Kind of a new concept to me but it does seem as Melissa says to give you the possibility of having thousands of visitors a day. I hope you would go into more detail on different kinds of viral marketing we can try besides this one.
Well, viral marketing is not anything new but since I didn’t see a lot of bloggers writing about it, I thought I would do it myself.
Wow! Great blog!
Thanks a lot. I hope you enjoy it and will come back more often.
thanks for the insight. I see more and more people going with guest posters, it benefits the owner, reader and poster all at the same time.
I think the only difficulty is finding quality guest posters. Did ok here though!
Andy Baileys last blog post..I wanted to join Starfleet
Quality guest posters are extremely difficult to find. I can’t find many myself.
Nice concept. Seems like a simple concept. Two concepts.
haha. what?
