I have talked about the power of commenting before. I began to stop commenting on so many blogs once I thought I had enough subscribers. However, my subscriber count began to not go up and instead I was losing subscribers. Maybe you feel like you are not gaining subscribers right now or you are not getting enough traffic to your blog. Well, what I did just Thursday and Friday will fix both of those things.
This is probably the easiest tip that you’ll ever hear and you probably have heard it before. Comment on any blogs that are similar to your niche. They do not have to be the exact same as your niche but somewhat similar. I did this for two days and I gained 200 subscribers. This honestly can be you also.
Here Was My Comment Strategy:
- Find as many blogs as possible that have the same niche as mine or a similar niche.
- Make sure that each blog has over 100 subscribers so that you know that you can get traffic.
- Whenever there is a new post on any of those blogs make sure to comment. You’ll want to make sure to use a feed reader like Google so that you know when each blog has an update.
- Try to comment as quick as possible so that you’ll be seen by all other commenters.
- Make sure to at least write three sentences or more so that you add to the post. You don’t want to look like a comment spammer.
That is all I did and I was able to gain 200 subscribers in those two days. Of course you need to make sure that you have good content so that people will want to subscribe your blog. But writing great content isn’t that difficult so I’m sure you are already doing that. If you do these things I’m positive that you will up your subscriber count.
{ 100 comments }
That was a great increase. How many blogs each day you left a comment on?
I leave a comment on quite a few blogs. I have over 300 blogs in my feed reader. That doesn’t mean I comment on all of them though. I just post on as many as I can get done in a couple of hours. These are mostly the newest articles that were posted.
I started doing this a couple of weeks ago, and have see some of my comments send 30+ visits to my blog. It is a great strategy!
Very good work! I subscribed to your blog a while ago because you did comment on my blog and I know a lot of bloggers who subscribed to my blog simply because I dropped a comment…So yep, it does work!
Good job buddy
Ben.
Thanks for the testimonial for commenting on the other blogs. People still today want to fight with me that it doesn’t work.
Franklin, how many blogs did you comment on? Wow! That is great and seems like it is possible. Ok, I have to stretch this comment out so that it is at least three lines long. I wonder how am I doing to make this happen on this wonderful blog?
LOL! Ok, that is probably a bad example of how to comment on a blog, but I thought it was funny.
Nevertheless, good tip and yes, I am turning back to commenting this week. In fact, I just commented on 13 blogs for a niche site that I am building…mainly looking for backlinks as they are Do Follow, but some traffic would be nice as well.
Thanks for sharing!
haha, I’m happy you are going to start commenting again. The more backlinks you end up with the easier you’ll get a higher pagerank. And that is good for search engine optimization. So you’ll get a good traffic from doing it.
How do you know how many subscribers other blogs get?
It sounds like you could spend half your day running around commenting on other blogs. Some don’t have the luxury of time to do this.
Usually the other blogs will have a counter on their sidebar. If not just look and see how may comments they’re receiving and that should give you some idea of how may people are coming to their web site.
Those are some nice results Franklin. How much time did you devote to blog commenting on those days? Was that your primary focus for the day?
Lately it’s been around two hours a day. But it is definitely working for this blog so why waste time doing the other things. I am also working on search engine optimization too. These are the main two things I’m doing these days.
Hi Franklin,
I also think that commenting on theme related blogs will do you good. But so far I receive traffic only from social media websites and Google. I try to comment on every blog and where ever I place a comment I try to say something worth reading. I have blogs that I visit regularly, Michael Martine’s blog is one of them but as I said : so far my traffic doesn’t come from blogs I post.
Thanks
You might want to try using a tagline for your name when you comment. It will likely make people go to your site.
Thanks for your suggestion. I was doing that but at some point I decided to use my own name. I was thinking that using a tag line would look like such an obvious advertising.
I’ll take your advice into consideration.
Very well put. I actually didn’t track my stats for about a week. I was commenting on blogs that are in a relatively similar niche as mine and realized that I actually got a good amount of traffic coming from those few targeted comments.
Commenting might not always bring a huge flood of traffic to your site, but it is definitely a very effective method. Not only do you get traffic, but if you comments are of good quality, you are contributing valuable content to the blog, and possibly nurturing a relationship with the blogger, which is something that can definitely pay off in the future. Most bloggers read every single comment that’s posted to their site and this can be your window of opportunity to establishing a good relationship.
Blogging (in my opinion), is all about relationships. Relationships with your readers, but also with other bloggers. When bloggers unite, great things can happen
The best thing is that most of those visitors are targeted towards your niche. It isn’t like social media traffic where they are only going to be on your web site for 10 to 20 seconds. These people are more likely to become subscribers. You are definitely right when you say blogging is about relationships.
If blogging is about relationships, why would you want to comment just to get numbers up? Seems false to me, and definitely “not social” at all.
I am glad that you stipulated quality comments as any other type is a waste of time. As much as I value my commentators I have a policy warning them that I reserve the right to delete any comments that I do not find worthy.
I love to comment but do not always get the time to comment as much as I would like to. I don’t check to see how many subscribers they have, I just read the post and if I think it worth of a comment then I leave my mark.
Yes, it is pointless to comment if you were not going to post a quality one. This will only hurt your brand. Most people forget that you need to make a good first impression.
Makes you wonder then why so many people waste their time leaving useless comments, especially when it is on a nofollow blog and thatey don’t even get seen by the search engines.
I’m not sure how my spelling is on this comment as the words are going off the form as I type and I can’t proof read it.
You should never under estimate the power of commenting. I use the same strategy and although I haven’t gotten the results you got, I have doubled my subscriber count the last time I did mass commenting.
Well then you are just another person to prove that this works. I am happy it has worked for you also. Hopefully you will continue to do this to up your subscriber count.
I will, I currently comment on about 40 blogs a week. I plan on doubling all of my numbers by the end of the month.
Dang 300 blogs in your reader? No wonder you got so many new subscribers. I’ve been doing a similar thing, but I haven’t been able to give enough time to it, and so i’ve gotten about 50 new subscribers in a week. Still great numbers though in my mind. I talked about this recently in a post called my comment schedule, and it does work wonders.
I do read a lot of blogs. It is a good thing that I am a quick reader. Quite a few of them do not update everyday so it is a little better.
So how many subscribers do you have now?
Not very many on this blog. But this increase was amazing. About double.
Maybe you could show off your feedburner stats now because you got 200 subscribers. I am currently having an irregular number of subscribers. This might be a helpful tip.
I am not big on showing subscribers. I’m still not sure if it gains me subscribers or loses me subscribers. Now if I had 20,000 subscribers of this blog then I might show them off.
Great method…
Does that persistent popup (lightbox overlay) which asks for email addresses contribute to your subscribers as well? ie. Do you convert contest email addresses into subscribers?
I do not count that as subscribers. I know some people do but I am yet to include those.
Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about that.
Anyway, I will be trying to duplicate your method, starting tomorrow.
We will see if I have the same success.
This really does work. Sure it is bit time consuming but important thing here is it does actually work and I speak from experience.
Great testimonial. It is good when people support what others are saying. Some people really try to argue that this doesn’t work but they are just losing out.
dont you think is about time, to give “something” for people to subscribe.. it work for the most of blogger. you received lot of subscriber in short of time.. do you subscribe to other and how many?
i just open my new blog, hope you can check it soon, and do you think i need to use aweber like yours, or wait for my blog to grow first..?
http://whizblog.net
I would just work on your blog growing and then add any e-mail service like that.
Man,
I have a hard time with the quality comments. I’m just not that smart…if I were I probably would be blogging as The Almost Billionaire by now!
Just try to add to the conversation. Just make sure that it looks like you actually read the post. Then you will be fine.
I agree man! That’s the main way I started getting traffic to my site, being out throwin my mugg all over the place. Now, I never had an increase of 2hunnid in 2 days….but the concept works man.
I’m wit Freddie, how many blogs you comment on in those two days sucka! lol
Actually comment on quite a few blogs. I’m not sure how many I did on those two days but I should have counted.
Hi Franklin ~ Those are some great numbers and I agree completely with this method. I did a lot of commenting during the Blogging Idol competition and it was definitely one of the methods that paid off ~ I went from 52 subscribers to over 600 in 30 days. The best news is that I’m still over 600 weeks later and I thought I’d see a huge drop off after the contest.
I really need to learn how to use my feedreader more effectively … I hear it’s a great way to stay organized for commenting and reading great articles. Any tips? LOL *SmiLes* Suzanne
You should definitely try to keep doing what you were doing. You had a great increase of subscribers in a short period. You could easily go over the thousand subscribers mark.
Hi Franklin,
I have been a good student. I have taken plenty of notes and implemented your suggestions to increase traffic, comments etc… Its working for me. That is considering that I have been slow at posting. ( I have had a cold for almost a month. ) your loyal reader, Laura
I’m happy you have been able to get everything down so that you could replicate it. Hopefully you can get rid of your cold so you can get right down to it. Just try to post as much as you’re able to so you give something to your readers.
Of course it works. Absolutely it works. 110%. The largest percentage of my subscribers are due soley to commenting and growing daily (or so it seems).
I’ve also added somewhat of an incemtive to not only subscribe, but stay.
Oops typos.
And some people still question this. With all of us saying it works I can’t believe anyone still questions this.
Interesting tips, I’ll have to give them a try! I have to say I like your content, it’s short and to the point without a lot of fluff. Blog commenting is definitely a great way to drive traffic to your blog and read some great blog posts.
I definitely try to leave out a lot of the fluff. Hopefully you like my other content also.
Your tips are not only interesting but very true. Commenting in the manner you have stated will really help you get more subscribers and its a great way to do so. Keep up the great work!
Yes, when you comment in this manner it does work. However, if you fail to add to the conversation or the Blog post, then you might as well forget it.
I did actually see my subscriber count go up after commenting a lot. Then it stopped going up as much when I laid off. So I think this is pretty right on the money. When you increased your subscriber count by 200 approximately how many comments were you making per day? Just curious.
I had the same results as you did. I am not really sure how many comments I did every day. I really wish I would have kept track.
Commenting on other blogs is the easiest and best way to jumpstart a blog. It’s the nr 1 thing to do when you start a new blog.
You’re interacting with an audience that is similar to your own, and they’re just two clicks away from subscribing
It definitely is. The problem is that there are so many people that look at these things like we are only trying to raise our numbers. But most people that are blogging want to raise their numbers.
Thanks for the tips, Franklin. I’m betting there is a little karma involved too. When you take the time to make a comment on a fellow bloggers site it helps them to gain feedback for their content. In turn, their audience gives a good commenter’s blog a trial run.
I tried your strategy and I found that it also is a learning tool. You have to read lots of posts to write a decent comment and you find yourself reading other thoughtful comments too.

This is exactly what happens.
Not just the blog owner but anyone that takes a minute to read the comments.
I agree with you 100%. You do get to learn a lot of information from other people that comment also. It gives you great content ideas also.
