I decided to write about my secret of making money online because of the competition over on Net Fool’s blog. He asked you to explain your secret of making money online in the comments section. I began to write and had so much to say that I decided to write this post for all of my readers and visitors.
Below I have gone through the steps of my secret of making money online with a blog. It may seem like a lot of steps, but it doesn’t take as much time as some people believe. If you just stay consistent with these steps, then you should have no problems making a profit off of your blog.
Here is my secret of making money online:
1. You create a blog about something you’re interested in.
2. You find affiliates that have to do it with your niche so you can make money off of advertising their products or services.
*Your ad placement should be the following:
-1 banner ad in the top right hand corner (most clicked)
-6 125×125 sized ads in a right sidebar (left side bars are not working if you want to make cash)
-1 500×500 sized ad between your content and comments
Note: Some affiliates will not have these ad sizes but you can create some of your own and have them link to your affiliate URL.
3. You then write content while thinking about search engine optimization. (This one is way easier than you might think)
Your SEO should be the following:
-Use the thesis theme because it is one of the most search engine friendly blog designs. (It will be worth the cash)
-Use the Google keyword tool to search for words or phrases that you can target that does not have very much competition.
-Then you should properly write the content around the word or phrase you chose. (Use the word at the beginning of your title or if it is a phrase use the phrase as your title)
-Also make sure to use the word or phrase in the first sentence of your post and then use it throughout. (You can always put your word or phrase in a H2)
-Use the all-in-one SEO plugin for WordPress so that you can put in your keyword or phrase (as the keyword) and then add a description. (The description should definitely have your word or phrase near the beginning of it)
-Then you should go out and get some links. Search on Google for Dofollow forums. Post on them and link out to your posts. Of course make sure it is relevant to the conversation. Try to use your word or phrase you are targeting and link to it.
-And then bookmark your post on social bookmarking sites that are Dofollow. Caroline Middlebrook has a nice list of them.
4. Get easy traffic by taking an hour out of your day and posting comments on other blogs that are related to yours. You can easily post on 30 blogs in an hour. It should get you a nice steady traffic of 100 to 150 unique visitors everyday if you do it everyday.
5. Use Aweber e-mail marketing and use the lightbox option on your blog. Set up a newsletter for your blog so people can sign up for it. Then whenever you send out a new newsletter to your subscribers, make sure that you use affiliate links within your content.
So you will make all of your money off affiliates. If you do the search engine optimization like I said, then you will easily have a lot of traffic coming to your blog everyday. You will already have traffic on your blog if you are commenting. If all that is relevant to your niche, then you will definitely have people buying from the companies you are an affiliate for.
You may think that is a lot to do but it is actually not very much at all. It helped me build up two great blogs and sell them for good money. Good luck!

Awesome tips Franklin! Make sure that you post the link to this post in the comment area of the contest page on my website
I must say you have really come up with a unique idea Jim.
Hey bishop i can’t see a 500×500 sized ad between your content and comments.
Good stuff, Franklin. I am all over most of these, but I hate forums. Guess I need to get over that…not sure why I hate them so. But that is a good tip to socially bookmark the forum pages. Sweet!
Also, damn, you must be a fast reader or something because 30 post in an hour is serious! I wish I could do so, but it takes me too long to read post. I am a slow reader…just an handicap that I have to overcome. Nevertheless, I will be making a run at it. I just started some new niche sites and am looking for loads of traffic!
I am a quick reader. That is a good thing because it benefits my commenting strategy. I can definitely get more comments in this way.
I gotta go with ya there my friend. My speed reading skills have gone off the chart since I started seriously commenting.
Not to mention my typing.
Nice outline! I would like to hear your opinion on banner blindness, you say that top right ads banner and the right sidebar banner work best, and you also mention specific sizes to use. Don’t you think visitors are very much used to it by now as many other blogs use the same positions/sizes? Or your numbers show otherwise? Thanks.
Marko
I think they are a little immune to sidebar ads. However, the top right ad banner is dominating for me. That could be because people are looking for cheap hosting.
Some great tips. However, do you know if there’s a free option to the Aweber Light Box? Like is there any type of wordpress plugin you can use or something? And just out of curiosity, what are your affiliate links? Do you have any listed on here?
There was a Wordpress plugin that did something similar to this but people have been complaining that it isn’t currently working. I’m not sure what it is called though. All my affiliate links are in my advertisements. I completely went to affiliate advertising because it makes more money.
That my friend is a perfect plan for making money online. Affiliate marketing is the way to go for most bloggers who just don’t have the time or skills to create and sell their own products.
I agree with you. It is easier to sell other people’s products but you can make more money if you create your own. Great thoughts.
what if the subject that we like is not the profitable one..
because not all subject can make money, do they?
can you suggest ways to find blog that in our niche
other than google blog search?
thank you
I would definitely choose a niche that you can make money from if that’s what you are blogging for. You are right, not every subject can make money. So hopefully you can find something you’re interested in that can make some cash.
I would just take some time on the search engine and search for similar terms with your blog.
Great tips Franklin! Thanks for sharing your secret to affiliate marketing. Good luck in the contest!
And thank you for sponsoring the contest.
500×500 ad size might be irritating for readers. That’s too big. You’re reall yright. Blog commenting and seo can give awesome traffic and later convert to cash.
That size of advertisement works well because it is easy to see. I guess you just have to watch and see if it irritates visitors.
Thanks man, that is spelled out very nicely! Even us guys from Michigan can understand your system!
LOL, well I’m happy you can understand my system. Just trying to get all my secrets. It really is all common sense.
I run a community news site for the town I live in. My source of advertising revenue would mainly be local businesses. Any tips would be most, most appreciated???
Well, my advice would be to do the same thing you would do to find advertisers for your blog. Contact them by a letter or phone call. It is definitely worth a shot.
I agree with the process but contemplated abit on the Aweber lightbox. I used Aweber myself but have refrain from using lightbox. I think this will irritate regular readers in the long run but has proven to be effective in the short run.
Wei Liang
Wei Liang, I confess my ignorance, but what is the lightbox, and how would it be irritating to regular users?
Lightbox is a popup to get readers to sign up
for your newsletter. I guess you can figure it
out now why lightbox might be irritating to
regular readers.
do only aweber provide such tool?
or there is any free one?
I do think that it is affective if you have quite few unique visitors. I think it is only effective in the short run if you only have people sign up for your newsletter that are normal visitors to your blog. Otherwise, it has been shown to be affective over many months. I agree that it can be very irritating.
Please don’t ever go for a free autoresponder. I guarentee you will regret it later.
Very good (and solid) tips. Those are the basics of how many huge bloggers make good money online summarized in a very short article. Good stuff.
I actually found a good alternative to the lightbox feature (especially not to annoy the frequent readers). It’s called the WP Popup Scheduler. You can set it (for example) to only show on the first visit, so frequent readers don’t have to worry about it.
Also, posting comments on other blogs is a good way of getting traffic. However, if you are posting 30 in 1 hour, that means you are posting an average of 1 comment every 2 minutes. That’s not enough to actually read through the posts and leave an informed comment. I find that you get better results leaving fewer, but more informed comments because that not only leaves a better impression, but in my opinion, it makes it more likely that people will actually click-through. Not only that, but you are actually contributing valuable content, which also benefits the blog you are commenting on.
All in all, very well-written article. I will be subscribing to your blog to see what else you have to say
I am usually a pretty quick reader. And being able to comment that many times has given me a lot more traffic and more subscribers. I guess everyone’s experiences might be different. Thanks for subscribing.
Well, you obviously know what you are doing because it has worked for you. I just read your article on 200 subscribers in 2 days. That says a lot.
Wow, really awesome outline, thanks for the tips buddy.
No problem Dennis. Hopefully it will help.
What a great post. Thanks for the great content. I will be working on applying all these principles as I re-tool my blog for 2009
Hopefully these principles will benefit your blog. It is always good to start off the year fresh. It has definitely helped my blogs anyways.
The real secret is to find a way to follow your formula in a more automated fashion and create 100s of blogs all making $10 to $100 per month.
You are definitely right. If there was a way to automate this it would be awesome. I guess that is the next goal.
I am working on something along these lines
but getting quality unique content in an
automated way is the challenge. The only
way is to have you visitors gladly provide it for you
for free. Those who figure it out are those
who make it big.
I used to have Aweber but I decided not to use it anymore since the only thing I was doing was building up a list.
But a list is easy to monetize. You send out a new article and have an affiliate link in it so you can make some money. That is how most bloggers are making money off of these lists.
Most annoying thing ever, those floating “join my newsletter ads”. Do not use these things unless you are desperate.
SEO..That’s the way it is..
They can be really targeted when applied correctly. Great post.
Thanks a lot. Search engine optimization can definitely send you targeted traffic. I did a post about search engine optimization a while back but I am going to make a separate page on this blog about it. The reason why is because I am only learning more.
Hi Franklin. Thanks for this particular post. I found it really useful and relevant. Will bookmark it.
No problem. Hopefully it will come in handy.
Good post Franklin…dang son! I need to get out more. My commenting/blog reading has been slacking lately, but your blog is giving me new fire!
I really like how simple you laid out your plan man, lol…straightforward and easy to implement without having to dish out $100+ for a course lol.
Do those huge ads really work that well between the content and your comments?
Yeah, no one needs to pay money for a course. They’re just huge ripoffs and there are plenty of people explain how to do things on their blogs. The huge ads between content and comments do work most the time. I did not like to use them on this blog but I did for my other ones I use to own.
Well, I see you have quite a bit to share man lol.
I also like what you did with the e course.
Keep it up, and I’ll keep soaking it up lol.
Great list! I don’t see the 500/ad either … did you take it down? Are you selling any private ads? What percentage of your posts have affiliate links in them? All or do you ration them LOL? I’ve sort of struggled with that … I want to provide valuable content without feeling like I’m always trying to monetize everything I write. Any successful rule of thumb on this? Thanks! *SmiLes* Suzanne
A lot of questions. I do not use the ad on this blog. I have used them on my other blogs and they have worked. I am selling private ads. I’m not sure what percent of my posts have affiliate links. I do not have very many posts on this blog with affiliate links though. My rule of thumb is if I get annoyed by these things then I don’t do it to my visitors and readers.
interesting… you recommend the thesis theme but you’re not using it. Did you used to use it and take it down? What theme are you using Franklin?
Sean.
I created this theme myself. I wanted it to be different than everyone else’s. I am using it on my new search engine blog. It is supposed to be the best search engine friendly theme you can get. For now I recommend it.
I am really glad I found your site, there is a lot of great information here. About using the Thesis theme, what about the Super Adsense Theme? I thought it was search engine friendly and the best to use for niche sites.
I look forward to following along here.
John Boy
Might need to check out that Aweber lightbox option.
Thanks for give me your secrets…This is very usefull to me.
