Next Pagerank Update 2010

by Franklin Bishop on May 30, 2009

As you probably already know, there was a pagerank update for Google a couple days ago. It took me all the way to a PR 3. Some people were hit really hard this time, but the good thing is that the next pagerank update into doesn’t not and will be around August or September. It is actually pretty amazing that this happened considering I just started this Blog at the end of July in 2008. From my point of view, it doesn’t matter what pagerank I have.

Worry about the next pagerank update?

The reason I am saying that it doesn’t matter what pagerank I have is because it obviously doesn’t help you with your search engine traffic (WordPress SEO). So if you are worried about your pagerank, do not worry about when the next pagerank update is because your pagerank doesn’t matter. All pagerank will do for you is give power to people’s articles that you link to.

When is the next pagerank update of 2010?

If you still care about raising your pagerank for some reason, then the next pagerank update of 2010 will be around August or September. Google seems to update it every three months or so. However, they have been known to updated again in a week after the last update. They do this because they might have realized they had a minor bug in their pagerank formula.

Raise pagerank for next update?

Well, if you were wishing to raise your pagerank still then here are my recommendations based on what I have seen on my blog.

1. Do not link to your own articles and other articles too much. Google sees this as link spamming.

2. Based on number 1, you should not use dofollow on your comments and on your top commentators plugin. This many wings going out that Google has to follow will look spammy. It does seem to be okay if you use your top commentators plugin on your main page.

3. Submit your articles to these 27 do-follow bookmarking sites. It gives each article better pagerank and also your homepage. I do not recommend submitting more than a hundred articles in a day.

4. Last but not least, I went out and bought the Thesis WordPress theme. The framework of the theme is built perfect for search engine traffic and getting a higher pagerank.

The good thing for all of you is that the next pagerank update for 2009 is not until August or September. So there is plenty of time to get to work and raise that pagerank of yours.

Submitting to the do follow bookmarking sites does help.

My blog is now PR3 from PR1 previously and submitting to the do follow bookmarking sites is one of few things that I did.

One of my blogs has no page rank because I accept paid advertising. There’s something about making money that I like more than having a page rank, so unless the money leaves, I don’t see myself changing that particular thing any time soon.

As for my other sites and blogs, one of my blogs went up, everything else stayed stagnant. Overall, I still don’t care. Numbers are nice to look at, but in the end, it really is about visitors and conversions, right?

There’s a circle of people “in the know” on the web really pushing “Thesis”. What makes Thesis superior to all of the free Wordpress templates? Who owns the company that makes Thesis? Just curious if this is one big affiliate program and if so, where do I sign up ;) ?

I am a bit curious about your point #4. Does it really affect page rank with what themes you selected?

Personally I don’t care much about PageRank either. In my opinion it is only good for helping to sell ads for more. A lot of people only want to buy ads on higher PR sites. Then again, those ads can get your sites penalized.

These are excellent tips on how to raise page rank, I’m sure many will find this really useful, those that are concerned with their page ranks. Since we never know when Google updates, it’s best to get a head start right, and work on what one can. Thanks!

How is linking to other articles seen as spamming? Does this mean if I link to several articles in the New York Times website, I’ll get penalized? OR do you mean do not link to other low Pageranked articles?

I do not care about PageRank! This means NOTHING today! Unless it is PR7-10, of course! ;-)

I am going to be the first that leaves a comment in defense of Page Rank.

Here is my take on Page Rank, and why it is still highly relevant, and does matter. Now… I will agree on one thing….. Page Rank is not a measure of website’s success – financially, or traffic wise.

What I will say is that Page Rank is highly important because it shows how much authority Google Perceives your website to be. If you do a Google search on most topics, more than likely the highest PR will be ranked at the first position. I know Google loves Wikipedia, but Wiki is always at the top of alot of searches, but if you check out the page’s Page Rank, I bet you it will show a strong number. So I say Page Rank is important, and should not be shrugged off so easily.

I guess page rank is the only indication of the value google perceives your site has. But, I think PR is directly related to your site’s placing on the results page.

PageRank! PageRank! Come and get your PageRank!

Whats more important?
Traffic or PageRank?
Money or PageRank?

I chose the first two in my opinion….

Thanks for the great post Franklin

….your pagerank is 1 though…So, you dropped from 5 to one. That must suck.

Do you still stand by what you said about how it doesn’t matter how high your PR is, or is it different now that you got demoted

Franklin Bishop July 18, 2009 at 1:31 pm

I’m at 4. Where’d you see 1 at?

christel July 31, 2009 at 6:14 am

Well, this particular page is set to 1/10 according to SEOQuake

Marc July 21, 2009 at 3:00 pm

I believe Christel has it confused. This individual post is indeed a PR1, which is not a bad thing.

Christel, when people mention PR it’s assumed that we are referring to the homepage, which is in fact a PR4.

If not important, how did we found you so fast? Do you have statistics that shows from where visitors came? I came from google

PAGERANK is only a experiment on the go

ilginç August 4, 2009 at 4:55 am

I hope my blog will have Pagerank 4 in next pagerank update. Thank you for sharing your opinion about this issue.

I don’t understand why every one is so afraid of putting ads on there site in fear of Google, certainly Google is not afraid of ads. Ads help advertiser ads help generate income for you and the advertiser is that a bad thing?

Christopher Roberts August 18, 2009 at 4:00 am

Brilliant article, thanks for the info.

Nathan McKelvey September 30, 2009 at 12:23 pm

The pagerank formula has been modified, but Google’s success relates to its original thesis that the more chatter there is on the Internet about a particular site, the more relevant it is. So, even though a PR1 can show up above a PR4 it does not diminish the importance of PR. Quality and integrity of the incoming links is now measured, so in my example the PR1 site might have incoming links from highly credible sources such as a Government site or a .edu address which gives it higher credibility than the PR4 site which might have links mostly from its own site.

I was a big believer in PR, but after doing some reading, I guess I am getting pulled to the dark side and not thinking about it too much. I am also a believer in updating content daily. That is more important than anything for SEO. Use your keywords 3-7 times per article, bold text them is what I’m told. Good article franklin!
