Sorry If I Offended Anyone with My “Idiot” Blog Post

by Franklin Bishop on August 25, 2008

This is actually getting pretty funny because I have offended other bloggers by my “You’re an Idiot If You Don’t Comment, Yes That’s Right Idiot!”. I really do care about other bloggers and my subscribers. I’ve made plenty of money off of blogging and so that is not why I am trying to help other bloggers out. I’m not just trying to make a quick buck and I really wanna help your blog succeed.

What I was trying to do is just get a point across, you’re an idiot if you are not commenting. I lost 83 subscribers since the day of the blog post and I got plenty of e-mails telling me their displeasure. I guess some people just take things personal. All I have to say is that they must’ve been idiots that were not commenting. I just really hope that if that is the reason why they did not stay a subscriber that they still will try to comment on other blogs. Having all of your comments all over the Internet will soon enough bring constant traffic to your blog.

If any of you that are reading this were offended by that post I am sorry, but trust me when I say that you should all be commenting on other blogs.

Oh you big pansy, quit apologizing… You’re making yourself look stupid.

You write a post and it gets the attention of other readers where you have 37 comments on ONE post where your other posts get next to nothing. If you were smart you’d continue to write controversial posts where you ruffle some feathers..

But instead you’re being a wuss and apologizing.

BE A MAN and delete this post!

Controversy brings traffic.

While I don’t necessarily agree that anyone who doesn’t comment is an idiot (not everyone has a blog, etc) I do agree with the idea that commenting is not only a great way to show your appreciation for an author, but also to drive potential traffic to your own blog or site. You make good points.

Well I am talking to only bloggers, no one else. If I need to clarify it.

I didn’t find it to be offensive. Struck me as just a bit of hyperbole. Besides, if a person wants to grow their traffic, they are an idiot not to comment on other, relevant, blogs.

It is just that simple.

Good point. People are just too stubborn sometimes an if they would just get over that they can have a successful blog by commenting.

Well, that’s the problem. People get so enamored with themselves that they can’t imagine, say, reading someone else’s blog or, God help us, commenting and supporting other blogs. Of course, if we all felt that way, there would be no point in blogging at all.

Blogs are not newspapers and comments are not letters to the editor. Blogs are by nature interactive, and if one is going to participate in the Blogosphere, one ought to do it properly.

I agree with your statement. However, I would have put it differently. I tell those who have blogs this:

Please comment in blogs when you have something to say. The blogowner will appreciate your comment so much! You will probably get comments back, also. While the idea is not to comment to get comments, you will get them also, as a byproduct of your participation in the blogosphere, and by helping other bloggers! So please leave comments to those bloggers you feel deserve them! They’ll appreciate you, and you WILL get commenters back as a byproduct, from them and others who view your link!

That is what I tell people who have actually accused me of just trying to drop links to get more comments. I don’t do that. I have gone to blogs for years now, trying to encourage other bloggers. And yes, b/c of it, I have had readers and commenters come to my blog.

By the way, I came to your blog because I saw you in ProBlogger. I just love ProBlogger!

Interesting. I find spam as putting a link in your comment. Otherwise your url is asked for.

What about a link to another site that you feel answers or adds to your comment. Does this include or get annoying? Or would it be called spam by some? I enjoy doing this a lot, but I don’t know if it’s good, bad, or ugly.

I don’t think you really should worry about it. I think everyone should take this advice anyway and if they don’t then they are just wasting their time blogging. You actually have to put a little effort into it to get something out of your blog. Everyone just needs to stop being a big baby and start commenting already.
