Get Traffic to Your Blog through Plurk

by Franklin Bishop on August 4, 2008

I hear bloggers constantly wanting to know more and more ways of bringing traffic to your blog. Most of the time I tell bloggers they need to make sure that they have good content written first before you even think about getting a lot of traffic to your blog. However, for the sake of just bringing traffic to your blog I will be leave out the part about good content.

I have been experimenting with Plurk quite a bit in the past week. That’s right, I’m already writing a blog post about something that I’ve only used for a week. You will understand in a second.

Plurk is very similar to Twitter. The only thing difference is that you’re able to respond to everyone else’s “Plurk.” You can see a nice timeline of posts from the people you are following. It allows you to be more interactive with people unlike that of Twitter. And if you know a little bit about building religious readers for your blog, then you’ll make sure to network with people personally.

When you are this interactive with people then they tend to check out your profile on Plurk. It is good when your interactive because you also have to build up Karma on Plurk. Karma is very important because people usually like to follow you if you have high Karma. One thing you have to make sure is that you don’t go just adding people as your friends because if they turn you down as a friend then your Karma actually goes down.

Here is what I did in the past week on Plurk:

I was able to get 152 unique visitors to my blog from Plurk. You notice that I had 163 profile views and I got 152 unique visitors from Plurk. That means only nine people that visited my profile did not visit my blog. That is actually a very good statistic. The bigger the following that I get, the more friends that I get, and the higher Karma that I ge will only bring more people to my profile page. And if that happens then I have more than a 90% chance that those visitors to my profile page will also go to my blog.

You can see how important it is to use websites such as Plurk. I already did the same thing using Twitter, but Plurk is even easier to bring traffic to your blog. If you want traffic to come to your blog then you have to make sure to network with as many people as possible on the Internet.

I actually like the concept of Plurk more than twitter but don’t use it because of it’s smaller userbase than twitter.

Huh – interesting! I’ll have to check this service out. It is almost overwhelming the number of social networking services that have appeared in the past year or so. Since you are not randomly (or at least indiscriminately) adding friends, how did so many people find your profile?

I checked Plurk out a bit. I dunno what I think, exactly. The timeline interface is a bit clunky. Keeping up with Twitter is already enough, and I don’t feel like I can reasonable handle two similar services. Since I am already established on Twitter, then I think I will stick with it for now…at least until there is a really compelling reason to change.

Hey, Great information…and once again yet another social website that probably lots of people have not heard. Thanks for the great information. You could probably have a complete blog of just doing social media sites. Hmm…maybe that’s an idea would anyone like to comment on that. Or does anyone know if there is a blog out there already like this one?
