Why Being the First Commenter Matters

by Franklin Bishop on August 13, 2008

All my readers have probably realized that I have a lot of faith in commenting on other blogs that are similar to your niche. It has been proven over and over that commenting is one of the number one ways of bringing traffic to your blog that will most likely stay more than that one visit.

I have seen more and more people try to disagree with is thinking although it is always the people that do not have more than 50 subscribers. It is just a fact of life you have to deal with. Commenting brings you traffic and it is targeted traffic (As long as your commenting in your niche).

The easiest way to make your comments become even more noticeable than they already will be is to be the first to comment on the blogs you read. I know, this is a very simple thing to think of but yet people still do not even try to do it.

I know there are a lot of blogs out there that are very difficult to be the first one to comment on but those are usually the blogs that have over 50,000 subscribers. Even being in the top five or top ten comments on each post will still bring you a lot of traffic because there’ll be tons of people still reading the article and even more people commenting.

Try to comment right away on blogs that have over 50,000 subscribers. As soon as you see a new post in your feedreader from one of the high trafficked blogs, then head over and comment on their post no matter what. After that make sure to comment as soon as possible on the other blogs you read that are similar to your own blog.

Even if that blog does not have a lot of subscribers, it doesn’t mean people are not going to read your comment. Every comment matters and being the first will allow anyone that reads comments to see yours no matter what.

There’s a tool out there called comment sniper that makes it a lot easier to be the first to comment. And if you are the first, you might as well Stumble or Digg the post if it’s worthy. Because being the first there also helps. And then the traffic coming from those sites will see your first comment and might click through.

I am only the 4th comment here :) But I think commenting does help get a little attention, especially on blogs with comment luv & if you have creative post titles.

Stephan- I haven’t checked out comment sniper but it seems to only tell you when there is a new blog post. I already use Google reader and have the Firefox addon that pops up and tells you when there is a new post from one of the blogs that you are subscribed to.

Chelle- CommentLuv is a really good way to get people to comment on your blog. I have thought about adding it on here but it is having some problems with WordPress 2 .6

I couldn’t agree more.

Commenting on other people’s blog is definitely something that should be taken seriously.

However, it is also important to comment on a blog that suits your niche. But if you really really would like to comment on a blog that has got nothing to do with your niche, I guess thats allright too.
The main thing is that you are able to provide some good insights to what is being discussed right?

Wow, now this is something that I will admit have thought about it, but it’s really making me think even more. I really liked Stephan Miller idea of just go ahead and stumble, digg, and etc the article to help bring more traffic to the site, but in return helps or brings you more traffic, what a great idea!

Wow, thanks for this tip for sure!!

Eric

P.S. Have you ever made it say a #1 comment on John Chow, Shoemoney, or anything really big blog?

I am yet to be the first person to comment on a post that is popular. I continue to try and try other people must really have a fast Internet connection. I think a fast Internet connection can really make a difference.

I know I have tried and tried this as well…ever since I have read this post. I was close, I think I got in the top 5 a few times and maybe even #2 once on John Chow. But, I can not believe how fast it is. I can remember one time, I got email about a new post clicked on it and there were already 15 comments…I could not believe of fast people are!
